Our offices are closed. We continue our work, but we can no longer receive regular mail. Send us your application by e-mail.

How to submit an application?

In French

  1. Fill in the application form (docx fileApplication for the recognition of a foreign qualification (1.04 MB))
  2. Provide every required supporting document as a separate PDF file.
  3. Send an e-mail with all PDF files to naric.attesten@vlaanderen.be.

Keep in mind the following

  • Provide only documents in the PDF format.
  • Provide us with one separate PDF file for each supporting document.
  • Change the PDF file name to the name of the supporting document it contains.
  • When a document is too big to send in a single e-mail, divide it into multiple PDF files.

Example

  • Identity card: front and back of the document in a single PDF file
  • Application form: one single PDF file
  • Diploma: front and back of the document in a single PDF file
  • Transcript/diploma supplement: one single PDF file (usually 3-4 pages)
  • Thesis/dissertation: one single PDF file
  • Study programme: one single PDF file
  • When the programme of study is too big to send in a single e-mail: one PDF with the first part of the study programme + one PDF with the second part of the study programme
  • Documents proving your work experience: one single PDF file

Recommended software
It is possible to scan documents and merge these into a single PDF file using free apps:

  • Do you use a smartphone? Download an app like Geniusscan, Camscanner, Microsoft Office Lens or Google Drive and create one single PDF file for each supporting document
  • Do you use a computer? Use PDFSAM or an online tool like Smallpdf, 2pdf, Topdf, … to split or merge your scans to a single PDF file for each supporting document.

What documents do you need?

Copy of your identity card

This is a copy of your passport or identity card. This may be a passport, identity card or other official identity card of your country of origin, but also a Belgian passport or residence permit, e.g. a registration certificate.

What if this document is not in Dutch, French, English or German? Please also include a copy of a certified translation in Dutch, French, English or German.

 

Copy of your qualification

A diploma is an official document proving that you successfully completed your training programme. In most countries, this is the document you submit to employers. In some countries, this is a large and richly decorated document which the holder has framed and mounted on the wall.

If you do not (no longer) have the diploma in your possession, you can apply for a replacement certificate. At least one supporting document proving that you completed your qualification abroad is always needed: duplicate of the qualification, provisional qualification, a score record of the final year of study.

What if this document is not in Dutch, French, English or German? Please also include a copy of a certified translation in Dutch. This translation must be made by a translator who is sworn in at a Belgian court .

 

Copy of an overview of all subjects taken together with the results for each subject and the number of teaching periods per subject

This document contains a resume of all subjects taken together with the outcomes for each subject. For the recognition of a foreign diploma of secondary education, you include the school reports of the final year. For European diplomas of higher education, this information is usually provided in the diploma supplement. Frequently used synonyms for this document are transcript, relevé des cotes of relevé de notes, Zeugnis…

What if this document is not in Dutch, French, English or German? Please also attach a copy of a certified translation in Dutch, French, English or German to your application.

 

Copy of the official study programme with a description of the contents of the subjects (only mandatory for the specific recognition procedures)

This document describes the contents of all the subjects of your programme as they were delivered during your studies. You can obtain the document from the administration of your educational institution. Often, you can also find it on your educational institution’s website. In your application, you mention the link to the website where NARIC can find the study programme.

What if this document is not in Dutch, French, English or German? Please also attach your own resume of 5 to 10 lines per subject in Dutch, French, English or German to your application.

 

Copy of your dissertation

As part of higher education programmes you often have to write a thesis or graduation project. If you have written a thesis or graduation project, please attach a copy of this document to your file. Frequently used synonyms for this document are masterproef, thesis, final project, dissertation, resumé, etc.

What if this document is not in Dutch, French, English or German? Please also attach your own resume of 5 to 10 pages in Dutch, French, English or German to your application. In this resume, you provide further details of the:

  • study design
  • research methods used
  • conclusion
  • bibliography

 

Copy of your curriculum vitae (obligatory for doctors of medicine, recommended in other cases)

Attach a copy of a recent curriculum vitae (CV) to your file.

 

Copy of your certificates of work placements (obligatory for medical and healthcare professions, recommended in other cases)

These documents contain information on your work placements:

  • duration of the work placement
  • tasks performed
  • the department were you have completed the work placement
  • assessment of your work placements

Usually, the documents have been provided and signed by the enterprise where the work placement was performed or the educational institution.

What if this document is not in Dutch, French, English or German? Please also attach a copy of a certified translation in Dutch, French, English or German to your application.

 

Copy of documents supporting your relevant professional experience (obligatory for medical and healthcare professions, recommended in other cases)

These documents contain information on your professional experience. For example:

  • who was your employer?
  • which department did you work in?
  • how long did you work there?
  • what tasks did you perform?

Your employer may provide these documents.

What if this document is not in Dutch, French, English or German? Please also attach a copy of a certified translation in Dutch, French, English or German to your application.

 

Copy of your portfolio (obligatory for artistic training)

As an artist or architect you usually have a portfolio containing an overview of your work during and after your training programme. Attach a copy of this portfolio to your file.

Do you have to submit the original documents?

No, copies or scans of your documents suffice. If your original documents are required for an authenticity check, NARIC will contact you.

Is legalization of these documents required?

No. No Apostille or other form of legalization is needed on your documents.

Do you have to submit documents for all qualifications obtained?

You enclose all documents on the qualification for which you are seeking recognition.

If you are seeking recognition of a diploma of secondary education, it may be relevant to submit a diploma or a certificate of completion of (part of) a higher education training programme as supplementary information.

If you are seeking recognition of a diploma of higher education, that follows another higher education diploma (master, second cycle, etc.), you also enclose all required documents for the preceding higher education diplomas to your file.

If you are applying for recognition of a doctoral degree (PhD), attach all required documents for the diploma giving you admission to the doctorate.

What if you do not (no longer) succeed in obtaining a document?

If the educational institution is no longer able to deliver a document, the institution must confirm this in writing.
